Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) and Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Grant Toolkit

TPP/PREP Background

In April 2010, the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) and the Administration for Children, Youth, and Families (ACYF) announced the availability of 2010 funds for competitive grants under two similar programs to support innovative youth pregnancy prevention strategies:

  1. Up to $25 million for research and demonstration programs under the new Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP)
  2. $10 million to implement and test innovative strategies through The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP).

According to the funding announcement, programs utilized must be "age-appropriate" and "medically accurate." Choosing the Best meets both of these program criteria. Choosing the Best offers five age-appropriate programs for middle and high school teens, which are among the target population for both grants. Additionally, the ACYF has completed a thorough and objective review of the medical and scientific information in Choosing the Best programs and found them to be medically accurate.

Applicants may submit only one application but will be considered for both funding streams unless the applicant requests otherwise. However, the applicant may only be funded from one funding source. The OAH and ACYF encourage applications from entities that currently have the capability to effectively implement and evaluate proposed program interventions.

Approximately 45 cooperative agreements will be awarded and will be made for five-year project periods. Awards will range from $400,000 to $1,000,000 per year.

Important Dates

Letters of Intent are due May 10, 2010.  Applications are due June 8. Awards will be announced in September of this year.
